Jake David Marinko Obituary
With profound sorrow and broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son, husband, brother, cousin, nephew and friend, who was born on June 26, 1990, and died on December 22, 2025. His death was sudden and shocking, leaving a void that cannot be filled and a family forever fractured.
Jake was strong, driven, and full of life. From a young age, he possessed a rare combination of physical strength, competitive spirit, and unwavering determination. An incredible athlete, Jake excelled in football, basketball, baseball and skateboarding and later embraced the thrill and freedom of snowboarding and wakeboarding. Whatever he chose to pursue, he gave it everything. Always pushing himself to 110%, always committed, always all in.
Jake lived life at full speed. He was filled with passion, effort, and the quest for life’s experiences. He loved sports in all forms, thrived on competition, enjoyed gambling, the stock market, real estate investments and renovating homes. He was completely dedicated to working out and staying strong, both physically and mentally.
While athletics came naturally to him, Jake found his academic stride in college and soared. His drive and discipline carried him through higher education with remarkable success. He graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and continued on to graduate school, earning both an MBA and Master’s degree in I/O Psychology. He worked at ECRA Group in Predictive Analytics as a Senior Data Analyst, and loved his job. His achievements reflected not only his intelligence, but his belief in hard work and commitment.
Above all else, Jake loved deeply. He was married to Catalina, his beautiful and loving wife who was the center of his world. Catalina changed his life for the better, and Jake knew immediately he wanted to commit to her with marriage. They had such a deep mutual caring for each other, which was felt by everyone around them. This love was shown in their everyday moments, especially in the way they always addressed each other as “mi amor”.
Jake was a devoted son to Mike and Kathy Marinko and cherished brother to Michael Marinko Jr (Mykie), Ashley Marinko and Zak (Jillian) Marinko, adored brother-in-law to Nathaly Ballesteros, and a playful, caring uncle to Gabriel Ballesteros. He is also remembered fondly by his extended family, including grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Jake greatly valued his family. He had a unique unconditional love for both his family and friends and was extremely loyal to those he loved.
Our family is shattered with sorrow by his loss. The pain is immense, and the silence he leaves behind is deafening. Yet even in our grief, Jake’s memories bring us joy. We will greatly miss Jake’s ability to find humor in everything and being someone you could always laugh with. We will always remember his smile, his laughter, his positive spirit, and the way he lived without holding anything back. He showed us how to commit fully to work, to love and to life itself.
Jake’s life, though far too short, was full, vibrant, and meaningful. He will be forever loved, deeply missed, and carried with us in every step forward.
